Setting up a recovery strategy is not something you do late on a Friday night. As the BizTalk Security Policy discussed in the beginning of the chapter, your recovery strategy is an elaborate plan on its own. If you want to know more on that subject and how SQL Server 2000 can assist you in achieving a nearly failsafe recovery strategy see Chapter 7, "SQL Server Backup and Recovery" in Designing SQL Server 2000 Databases for .NET Enterprise Servers.
A good backup strategy that enables you to minimize data loss includes:
■ Make a daily full backup to tape during the night.
■ Every six hours, make an incremental backup to disk. Take notice of the fact that you can make backups while the database stays online.
■ Every 15, 30, or 60 minutes, make a backup of the transaction log to disk, depending on the amount of transactions that take place on the database.
