Inconsistent user interfaces, though not the most serious type of bug, are annoying. One reason for the success of the Microsoft Windows operating system is that all Windows-based applications generally behave the same way. When an application deviates from the Windows standard, it becomes a burden for the user. An excellent example of this nonstandard, irksome behavior is the Find accelerators in Microsoft Outlook. In every other English-language Windows-based application on the planet, Ctrl+F brings up the Find dialog box so that you can find text in the current window. In Outlook, however, Ctrl+F forwards the open message, which I consider a bug. Even after many years of using Outlook, I can never remember to use the F4 key to find text in the currently open message.
Compared to many programming languages, Visual Basic.NET is a fairly easy language to learn. Unlike the C family of languages, VB.NET prefers to use the English language rather than cryptic symbols like &&, , and . Unlike prior versions of the VB language, however, VB.NET is a full-featured object-oriented language that can hold its own when compared to C++, C , or Java.
The tag enables you to configure your application to accept requests or respond to requests using different encoding options. Using this configuration setting will allow your site to respond in the specific encoding used by any country accessing your site. The default for requestEncoding and responseEncoding within the machine.config file is utf-8 for English-language systems, and if this setting is removed, ASP.NET defaults to your system's locale set-ting.This tag supports five attributes as shown in Table 4.2.
When the culture is set to en-US, which represents the English language, United States as the region (which is the default culture setting for computers in the United States), both labels will display the same string that is, 500.00 . When the current culture is set to fr-FR, which represents French language, France as the region, the text in the two labels will differ. The text in Label1 will always read 500.00 because it is not formatted by the application. The text in Label2, however, will read 500,00 . Note that the currency symbol is changed to the appropriate symbol for the locale in this case the Euros symbol and the decimal separator is changed to the separator that is appropriate for the locale (in this case, the comma).
Be understood in terms of natural English-language expressions. One of the most important semantic properties for the entity is the Words property. These are the natural-language words that identity the entity. If you wanted to add a synonym for the entity, you would add the singular form to the list of words. Entity type identifies the type of words that describe the entity Are they Who, Where, When, or a Measure Name type is a bit different from the Entity type in that it is available only for fields, levels, and entities. It tells us the type of name of the entity Proper, Common, or Classifier. Attribute of is used to signify that this entity is an attribute of another entity and provides a list of available entities to choose from.
String comparisons are based on the Unicode values of the characters in the string. As discussed in Module 4 , for the English language, the character set adopted by ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and ASCII (American Standards Committee for Information Interchange) use the numbers 0-255 to cover all alphabetical characters (upper- and lowercase), digits and punctuation marks, and even characters used in graphics and line drawing. Since 255 characters is not sufficient for all of the different alphabets used in this wide world, the Unicode standard was adopted, permitting (in Visual Basic .NET) potentially 65,536 different characters. However, the values of commonly used characters are the same in ASCII and Unicode. Table 6-2 lists the ASCII values of commonly used characters.
then, using common sense, we can all understand what that bit of data represents. In the latter case, I've marked up the data. By using the English language, English-speaking readers at least can use the set of common sense rules that we all carry around in our heads to determine what I'm trying to say. XML is a meta language or, in other words, is self-describing - it gives the data and the rules to follow to determine what the data is.

For example, en-US means the English language, as spoken in the United States. The en-GB culture represents English as spoken in Great Britain. The first two letters indicate the language and the last two, the region. Both language and location are specified because there are often variations in dialect and idiom where two cultures ostensibly share a language. For example, one of the authors of this book hails from en-GB, and therefore prefers color to be spelled colour.
An invariant culture exists, represented by iv. An invariant culture is culture-insensitive and returns results that are independent of a specific culture. An invariant culture is associated with the English language but not with any country region. It can be used in almost any method in the Globalization namespace that requires a culture, except for sorting. Some culture names have prefixes to specify the scripts for the cultures. For example, the prefix Cy- represents the Cyrillic script, and the prefix Lt- represents the Latin script. Therefore, the culture name Cy-sr-SP represents Serbian (Cyrillic)-Serbia, and the culture name Lt-sr-SP represents Serbian (Latin)-Serbia. Similarly, some cultures
