Data Tips

If the debugger is in break mode, you can view the value of a variable within the current scope by placing the mouse pointer over the variable in the source window. A DataTips pop-up then appears. Figure 12-15 shows the pop-up numerator = 5 when holding the mouse over the variable numerator in the Division project (the value is 5 because 5 was entered in the first text box).

DataTips are easy to use but somewhat limited. Unlike many other debugging tools that can be displayed both when the debugger is running and when it is in break mode, DataTips cannot be displayed unless the debugger is in break mode. Additionally, unlike some other debugging tools, DataTips cannot be used for expressions that involve function evaluation.
